María Zambrano High School has this year joined one of the most important projects financially supported by the European Union, the Comenius Project. Taking part in this project will allow us to put special emphasis on the co-operation of students and teachers at European schools. Apart from us, the other seven schools participating are from Aurich in Germany, Kepno and Wroclaw in Poland, Leeuwarden in the Netherlands, Pribram in the Czech Republic, Redruth in U.K. and Vollen in Norway.
The current Comenius project is for 2 years 2008 - 2010 and has the topic "Migration". The aim of this activity is to give the participants the chance to actively contemplate the impact of migration in their country or region. We will look at the different causes of migration (push- and pull-factors) and the effects on the countries where the migrants move to and from. The schools will exchange their results with the other schools in the project. Research and exchange with the partner schools on country or regional specialities will promote the awareness of the understanding of one of the biggest socio-political vectors in modern Europe. This is supposed to lead the students not only to a better understanding of migration as a terminology, but also to reflect upon the positive things that come from it and the challenges that face the continent as far as integration is concerned. This might not only make them aware of their own culture but also develop tolerance for different cultural features.
Every year two meetings take place, first between teachers to co-ordinate the work and decide the topic, and then between teachers and students to report and show their results. This year the first meeting took place in Aurich, Germany, from the 11th to the 17th of October. Two teachers from our school participated at this meeting, Silvia Gutiérrez Olid and Ana Isabel Peguero Portillo. The second one, between students, will take place in Vollen, Norway from the 19th to the 26th of March.

Primera reunión del Comenius en Alemania
El Instituto María Zambrano se ha unido este año a uno de los proyectos más importantes financiados por la Unión Europea, el Proyecto Comenius. Participar en este proyecto nos permitirá poner un especial énfasis en la cooperación entre los estudiantes y los profesores de los centros europeos. Además de nosotros, hay otros siete centros que participan: de Aurich, en Alemania; Kepno y Wroclaw, en Polonia; Leeuwarden,  en Holanda; Pribram, en la República Checa; Redruth, en Reino Unido y Vollen, en Noruega.

El actual proyecto Comenius ha sido aprobado para los próximos dos años, 2008-2010 y el tema que se trata son las “Migraciones”. El objetivo de esta actividad es dar a los participantes la oportunidad de contemplar activamente el impacto de la emigración-inmigración en sus países o entornos. Se estudian las diferentes causas de las migraciones (efectos llamada o salida) y las consecuencias en los países, ya sean receptores o generadores, de manera que los centros intercambian sus resultados con el resto de los institutos participantes.

Con este trabajo de investigación e intercambio de información se promueven el entendimiento y la concienciación acerca de uno de los mayores retos ante los que Europa ha de hacer frente. Se consigue así que los estudiantes tengan, no sólo una mejor comprensión de las migraciones como terminología, sino también un conocimiento de los aspectos positivos que conlleva, y los retos que debe afrontar cada continente, en cuanto a integración atañe. Esto puede hacernos conscientes de nuestra propia cultura y de la necesidad de desarrollar la tolerancia y el respeto hacia las demás.

Cada año tienen lugar dos reuniones, la primera entre profesores, para coordinar el trabajo y decidir el tema que se va a estudiar, y la segunda entre profesores y alumnos, para exponer sus resultados. Este año la primera reunión ha tenido lugar en Aurich, Alemania, del 4 al 11 de octubre y las profesoras Silvia Gutiérrez Olid y Ana Isabel Peguero Portillo asistieron a dicha reunión representando al I.E.S. María Zambrano. La segunda, a la que acudirán también alumnos de nuestro centro, tendrá lugar en Vollen entre el 19 y el 26 de Marzo.
